Frozen Picnic Food is a Walk in the Park

The sun is finally shining – well, sometimes – as we say goodbye to be one of the worst winters on record. With the long summer months ahead, many of us will be looking to make the most of our rare glimpses of sunshine with some Great British picnic food.

Nothing says summer quite like a picnic in the sunshine, on the beach, or in the country with close family and friends. But with the unpredictable British weather planning ahead for those long summer days can be quite a challenge.

Nobody wants to spend the nicest days of the year in the supermarket, fighting over the last few sausage rolls and quiche Lorraine. Premium frozen product ranges emerging in supermarkets have led more people to prepare ahead for summer days out and opt for frozen picnic food.

Choosing frozen for your picnic means that you won’t end up with tonnes of uneaten sausage rolls should the weather take a turn for the worse and what you don’t eat can be saved for the next time the sun tries to shine!

When off on a summer picnic, frozen food provides the ideal balance between offering delicious and nutritious food and staying on budget without spending the day before in the kitchen.

Tips

Here are our top tips for buying frozen picnic food:

  • Look for variety – frozen food means you can be much more adventurous with your picnic choices as it is often pre-prepared and doesn’t need the skills of Jamie or Nigella to whip up
  • Find new picnic favourites – swap cheese sandwiches and boiled eggs for mini pizzas, Moroccan cous cous salad, mini quiches, loaded potato skins and grilled Mediterranean vegetables
  • Keeping you cool – Frozen berries and fruits are the ideal refreshing dessert and they’ll keep your picnic cool, simply get them out of the freezer and allow them to defrost on the way to your picnic spot

So fingers crossed that we get some sunshine this summer and we can all enjoy plenty of picnics and good food with family and friends.
