Cooking with kids this summer

The school holidays are upon us and I am so excited about having the kids home for two weeks.

We have lots of lovely things planned – den building at the local reserve, play dates with friends, the Muppets movie booked to see and a visit to great grandma for Easter egg hunting arranged. There will however be lots of other time to fill so I like to have a few other, plans up my sleeve.

A fool proof way to entertain my children is to involve them in cooking. Having a few bit and bobs in my freezer just ready to get the kids cooking is always a good idea.

My kids, like most kids, love pizza.

In my freezer I always have some frozen sweetcorn and sliced peppers that make perfect pizza toppings. They love making their own dough and scooping on their own toppings. They love the freedom to choose and they feel so proud that they have made their own meal. It’s a great way to keep them entertained and to educate them about cooking and food choices at the same time.

I like to buy frozen fruit too as smoothies are always fun to whizz up with the kids and they like to make little chocolate croissants with puff pastry too.

So my tip for keeping the kids entertained this Easter..stock up your freezer to fill their little tummies and to keep them busy too!
